Early Years Educator / Teacher – Small Group Program

Part-Time | Milton, Ontario | School-Year Program

About the Role

Little & Wise is seeking a thoughtful, experienced early years educator or teacher to lead a small-group homeschool enrichment program for children ages 4–6.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in early childhood learning who values hands-on education and enjoys working in a calm, intentional environment.

You will guide a carefully designed program that blends:

• Ontario Kindergarten learning expectations
• Montessori-inspired methods
• STEM-based, inquiry-driven learning

You’ll work with a consistent group of approximately 6–8 students, with parents present on-site.

While a clear program framework is provided, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to and help shape curriculum, lesson flow, and learning materials based on your experience and the needs of the group.

Who This Role Is For

We welcome applicants with experience in early childhood education, including:

• Ontario Certified Teachers (OCT)
• Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECE)
• Montessori educators (AMI, MACTE, or similar training)
• Experienced homeschool or early years educators

Equivalent experience working with children ages 4–6 will also be considered.

The Ideal Educator

• Experience working with children ages 4–6 (JK/SK or equivalent)
• Strong understanding of early literacy and numeracy development
• Comfortable working with mixed-age groups
• Values hands-on, developmentally appropriate learning
• Confident differentiating instruction in real time
• Calm, organized, and intentional teaching style
• Strong communication with both children and parents
• Able to balance structure with flexibility based on student needs

Responsibilities

• Lead 2-hour small-group sessions twice weekly
• Deliver engaging, structured lessons aligned with program goals
• Differentiate instruction across a mixed-age group
• Guide literacy, numeracy, and inquiry-based activities
• Prepare simple weekly lesson plans and materials
• Maintain a calm, organized learning environment
• Observe and informally track student progress
• Foster positive peer interaction and collaboration
• Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of curriculum and learning materials

Assistant / Substitute Educator

About the Role

Little & Wise is seeking a nurturing, dependable, and attentive Assistant / Substitute Educator to support our small-group homeschool enrichment program for children ages 4–6.

This role works closely with the lead educator to maintain a calm, structured, and engaging learning environment, and may also step in to lead sessions when needed.

Who This Role Is For

We welcome candidates with experience in early childhood or education, including:

• ECE students or graduates (RECE or in progress)
• Education students (Teachers College or undergraduate)
• Montessori assistants or trainees
• Experienced childcare providers or early years assistants

Relevant hands-on experience with children ages 4–6 is highly valued.

The Ideal Candidate

• Experience working with young children (ages 4–6 preferred)
• Warm, calm, and attentive presence
• Patient, observant, and responsive to children’s needs
• Comfortable supporting small-group, structured environments
• Organized and proactive in assisting with transitions and materials
• Adaptable and confident stepping into a lead role when needed
• Reliable and professional

Responsibilities

• Support the lead educator during program sessions
• Assist with setup, transitions, and material organization
• Provide gentle guidance during learning activities
• Help maintain a calm, focused, and respectful environment
• Observe and respond to student needs throughout the session
• Step in as a substitute educator when required
• Support younger siblings on-site, helping ensure the main learning group remains uninterrupted
